With millions of small businesses across the region and an active community of accountants, Xero opened its Asia office last year.

Today we’re at the Hong Kong roadshow with more than 250 of our partners. We heard from an array of speakers kicked off this morning by our CEO Rod Drury. He shared his vision for the future of accounting and the exciting inflection point the industry is currently in.

The future of accounting

Rod highlighted “Our latest endorsement through our partnership with HSBC should be a strong indicator of the way we are heading in Hong Kong and throughout Asia.”

Online banking and cloud accounting have been on parallel paths. But increasingly the two are becoming inseparable. PayPal, Visa, HSBC and Ernst & Young talked about how small businesses and accounting practices can leverage the evolving finweb and the increased efficiencies for small businesses when tech and banking work closer together. A big part of this is this evolution of the financial web, is the use of high integrity accounting data to help small businesses access the capital they need to grow.

The big tech companies are on stage today as well — including Google and AWS. With the cloud changing the game for small business, together we’re doing much more than driving cloud adoption in small businesses. Together, we are connecting businesses and using software to rewire the economy.

The future of Xero

Oliver Furniss our General Manager of Global Product Marketing also gave an update on product and what’s coming up. He pointed out “We have a roadmap of new products and updates lined up with a focus on both our accounting and bookkeeping partners, small business customers and our marketplace partners. We can’t wait to share this with everyone.”

We’re lucky enough to have 14 of our ecosystem partners exhibiting which gives attendees a great opportunity to ensure they are getting the most out of the apps. Our ecosystem is made up of over 500 add on apps that integrate with Xero, allowing small businesses to run their day to day processes more efficiently.

It’s a great start to our Asia Roadshow. Next stop Singapore!
